You may have heard the words ‘Prana’ or ‘Chi’, perhaps during your Yoga or Martial Art classes, and wondered about the meaning of these words?
I like to define Prana as ‘Aliveness’ and ‘Field of sensations’ because these are simple definitions that can speak to everyone.
However these rather succinct definitions do not really give any substance.
Great authors have the extraordinary talent of being able to express in words what for most of us remains ineffable.
In ‘The Call of the Wild’, Jack London, was not writing about Yoga or Martial Arts. Yet, in my view, he expressed beautifully the meaning of ‘Prana’ or ‘Chi’:
“He was mastered by the sheer surging of life, the tidal wave of being, the perfect joy of each separate muscle, joint, and sinew in that it was everything that was not death, that it was aglow and rampant, expressing itself in movement, flying exultantly under the stars.”
