After hearing so much hype about what the media call ‘Artificial Intelligence’, I was curious and downloaded ChatGPT on my phone.
Being a Rolfer and Yoga teacher, my first question was: ‘What is good posture?’
The answer was detailed and included the words balance, upright position, natural curves of the spine and distributing weight evenly. I don’t disagree with these elements which I think are essential. If I had to summarise ChatGPT’s answer with a diagram it would look like this:
However, in my opinion, something profoundly human was missing in the robot’s answer.
The words ‘feeling’ or ‘sensing’ did not appear once. So here’s my human answer to what in my opinion is good posture:
A good posture or series of postures, as humans are not statues, but intrinsically designed for movement, are the ones that allow to feel grounded and supported. Postures that feel steady and comfortable and allow to reach our full potential in expressing ourselves gracefully, in movements and in our daily interactions with the environment.
During a Rolfing session, together, we observe your postures and we work together so that you can discover ways to express your full potential.
John Travolta’s walking scene in Saturday Night Fever is for me a great example of a human perspective of good posture.
I must admit that I feel somewhat relieved that ChatGPT or any other AI computer programs cannot understand this. Enjoy the video!
